A BLIK transfer ended badly for her. She lost 1,700 PLN

The BLIK method is reaping its harvest again. This time, a Lublin resident fell for it. For those who are not fully versed in the subject, we explain what this type of fraud is all about.

The Lublin police have once again received a report of fraud. A resident of Lublin reported an exceptionally unpleasant incident, who lost 1,700 złoty by merely showing concern and willingness to help. A woman reported to police that someone had hacked her friend’s social media account. Impersonating him, he asked for a quick loan of money via a BLIK code.. The woman, who was not suspecting anything at first, immediately rushed to help and, as it turned out later, she irretrievably lost 1,700 zlotys.

Fraud using this method involves breaking into and taking over a social media account and asking the account owner’s friends to share the BLIK code via messenger. The victim must log in to their bank to generate a BLIK code in the app and send it to their friend. Unlike bank transfers, such transactions cannot be reversed. The account owner must confirm the transaction, but they do so believing that they are helping a friend in need.

– explains Staff Sergeant Sylwia Serafin, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lublin.

We recently wrote about BLIK scams and how to deal with them on Telepolis. As you can see, it is worth continuing to warn against such incidents so that they reach as many people as possible. Unfortunately, almost every day, people who have been injured in this way report to the police. This only proves that, despite the warnings, the scale of the problem is still large.

The easiest way to avoid this type of fraud is the “old” analog method. – let’s call a friend and make sure that he is actually the one in need.
