Fake bank employee
The police in Zielona Góra received reports of three large thefts. She lost the most 40-year-old woman. She was called by a fraudster pretending to be a bank employee. She convinced the victim that her savings are at risk.
The woman believed this story and paid PLN 156,000. She then installed the app from the link provided. She deposited cash via an ATM into the criminals’ virtual wallet. The thieves used these funds to buy cryptocurrencies.
The social media trap
Another theft involved the promise of profit on the Internet. 60-year-old woman saw an advertisement online that encouraged investing in shares of a state-owned company. The victim decided to try to multiply the capital.
Woman she was transferring money for two months. In total, she handed over to criminals 50 thousand zlotys. The fraud was exposed when trying to withdraw funds. Contact with the alleged advisers immediately ceased.
The plumber’s method
Criminals work too in the real world. In Zielona Góra, two elderly women were robbed in their own apartment. Two men who identified themselves knocked on the door for plumbers. They claimed that they needed to check the tightness of the pipes in the building.
One of the perpetrators entered the bathroom with the seniors. Meanwhile, his accomplice searched the remaining rooms. The thieves took it out of the apartment PLN 150,000 in cash.
