Santander Bank has gone off the rails. They blocked a customer’s account because she had too much money
An interesting financial case was reported by a local portal from Rybnik. A 17-year-old girl had, according to the bank, “too much money in her account” and for this reason part of her savings were blocked.
Summer work and honest earnings
A 17-year-old resident of Rybnik decided to earn her own money during the holidays and spend it on the trip. She took care of animals for two months and received a salary for it. This was combined with small amounts she received from her grandparents. Unfortunately, it turned out that her the money earned deposited into the account caused quite a stir and discussion on the internet. They also drew attention to an important issue – it turned out that there is such a thing as account fund limits for minors. They exist – but should they really?
The daughter is good at taking care of animals, so she spent two months working with them. She was paid fairly for it. She also got money from her grandparents. For some strange reason, a teenager can’t have more than 8,000 inflows to the account.
– says the father of a teenager from Rybnik.
The bank blocked part of the deposited amount – it was too high
This was discovered after Santander Bank blocked part of the amount in the 17-year-old’s account. She deposited PLN 8,500 and the bank took over PLN 500 for a specified period. Of course, this money will be returned, but only on the last day of the month. Unless the 17-year-old’s earnings exceed the required threshold again.
During the call to the hotline, the bank confirmed that this procedure is in accordance with the regulations. In addition, in order to justify this and no other action, he referred to the Civil Codewhich in his opinion “specifies the rules for managing the child’s property, including ordinary management.”
Activities performed within the scope of ordinary management are instructions debiting the account, which in total do not exceed the amount of PLN 8,000 in a calendar month.
– says the bank regulations.
What does the law say about this? Law firms quoted online about this event believe that the bank’s entire explanation is quite bizarre. In their opinion, there is no provision in the Civil Code that would specify that a minor cannot have income greater than PLN 8,000.
