The desktop GPU market is entering an increasingly difficult period. The latest company report Jon Peddie Research summary fourth quarter of 2025 shows a clear slowdown in the dedicated graphics card segment. The data indicates both a decline in deliveries and further strengthening of one manufacturer at the expense of the competition.

DRAM shortages are having an increasing impact on the market

According to analysts, 11.5 million graphics cards hit the market in the last quarter of 2025. This means a decrease of 4.4% compared to the previous period. Despite this, the total installed base of cards will continue to grow and is forecast to reach approximately 172 million units by 2028. During this time, the number of desktop computers equipped with such systems is expected to double.

The share of dedicated graphics cards in new desktop computers is also interesting. In Q4 2025, this ratio dropped to 55%, which means a decrease of 12.3% compared to the previous quarter. At the same time, the desktop processor market decreased by 0.7% year-over-year, but increased by 9% compared to the previous quarter.

NVIDIA remains the biggest beneficiary of the changes. The company increased its market share by 1.6 percentage points and currently controls as much as 94% of the AIB card segment. This is as much as 10 percentage points more than a year earlier. On the other hand AMD has undergone a serious decline and now accounts for only about 5% of the market. Intel maintains a marginal but stable position with a share of around 1%.

GPU price increases only became particularly visible at the end of 2025. However, 2026 brought much more serious problems, especially in terms of availability and retail prices. The key factor is DRAM shortagewhich limits production and encourages speculative practices on the secondary market. According to forecasts, this situation will not improve in the near futureand global economic tensions may further worsen the condition of the AIB card segment.

If current trends continue, in the coming years, the segment of gaming computers costing less than $500 (~PLN 2,000) may virtually disappearwhich has so far been the foundation of the market.

The JPR report also covers the processor market. In the fourth quarter of 2025, manufacturers shipped approximately 21 million PC CPUs. This segment therefore remains in good shapebut also here, rising memory prices may limit the availability of new configurations for people planning to buy a ready-made computer or build their own computer.
