Messenger.com will cease operations in April 2026

Meta has just informed users of the popular messenger that from mid-April 2026, they will no longer be able to use Messenger.comwhich means that they will no longer exchange messages on the computer via a web browser. But this doesn’t mean that Meta is done with Messenger altogether. The messenger will still work, but any attempt to visit Messenger.com will result in redirection to Facebook. After clicking, the user will automatically land in the facebook.com/messages section. There you will find your conversations, but only after logging in to your Facebook account.

All roads lead to Facebook

In this way, Meta wants to complete a certain stage – it no longer needs a separate website for Messenger. From mid-April, communication will take place via the social networking site.

The Messenger.com website was launched in 2020 and quickly gained recognition among users looking for a simple messenger without a paywall or ads. But Meta decided to clean up. The decision to close the site did not come suddenly. There were already preparations for this when the company ended support for the desktop Messenger application in December 2025. This forced them to switch to Messenger.com or prompt them to use Facebook directly.

In fact, This change will mainly be felt by people using Messenger without a Facebook account. However, Meta ensures that everyone who does not have a Facebook account will still be able to communicate using the Messenger mobile application (no one forces them to create an account).

From April, all those who want to open Messenger.com will be automatically redirected to Facebook or the messenger’s mobile application. Therefore, for people communicating on a desktop, this may mean returning to the platform they once gave up on for some reason.
