Moments of terror on board Ryanair. The smartphone caught fire

This happened at Ryanair explosionand smartphone

The reason for the sudden evacuation was something that most travelers fear most, explosion of one of the passengers’ mobile phone. Specifically, it was about battery this device. The flight had to be delayed for this reason and the passengers were disembarked and returned to the terminal. But everything ended well. After about two hours, they received a replacement plane on which they could continue their journey.

Clouds of smoke just before the plane takes off

This entire dangerous situation occurred on board the Ryanair FR6011 plane, which was supposed to fly to Morocco, Nador. However, when the plane was on the tarmac, one of the passengers’ phone exploded. This triggered a whole series of security procedures and caused a delay.

The passengers weren’t laughing at all when clouds of smoke suddenly appeared. The reason for this situation was an overheated battery in the mobile device. Of course, Ryanair staff responded professionally and implemented standard procedures.

Fortunately, these types of exploding phones don’t happen often. But it is worth being aware that this type of situation may occur. Lithium-ion batteries carry the risk of overheating and, in extreme cases, explosion. Therefore, we should not be surprised that electronics (mainly power banks) are carefully controlled on board the plane and asked to turn off devices when the plane takes off. You don’t have to look far for restrictions. From On January 15, 2026, the German carrier Lufthansa tightened the regulations and, although it allows you to take power banks on board, it prohibits their use. This is about safety.

In 2024 alone, the Federal Aviation Administration recorded 89 incidents with batteries on board. There were more of them in 2025.
