It could be an amazing night in Poland. Better look at the sky
We could be incredibly lucky. This year’s August night sky observation could go down in history thanks to the combination of three extraordinary phenomena. All in the next few hours.
Last night already turned out to be an unexpectedly colorful night spectacle that was worth not going to bed too early for. The annual observation of the Perseids may be joined by an aurora borealis unexpectedly powerful enough to be visible over practically the entire Poland. As Karol Wójcicki, an astronomy popularizer who runs, among others, the profile “With a head in the stars”, points out, yesterday was the second strongest aurora this year. But today can be even better.
Where can you see the aurora?
How to see the aurora? Well, suffice it to say that they have actually been above us for quite some time. During the day it already reached the level of G4 on a five-point scale. And although it weakened slightly in the following hours, it looks like another coronal mass ejection from the Sun is heading towards Earth, which could strengthen the storm. A a dark night and clear sky over most of the country can make it possible to observe this unique phenomenon even with the naked eye, if conditions remain favorable. Of course, we are talking about looking at the sky away from the glare of city lights.
If the strong aurora is not enough for you, remember that We are currently at the peak of Perseid observations. These “falling stars” fall into the Earth’s atmosphere every year, providing us with an interesting spectacle. You can find more about it in this article. However, it is certainly connecting with the aurora can provide additional experiences. And if that’s still not enough for you, remember about the next meeting of Mars and Jupiter, which will also take place any moment now. In this case, we will have to wait years for another event like this.
