Huawei watches will pay contactless again. Curve Pay will replace the unlucky Quicko

During yesterday’s global premiere of the Huawei WATCH GT Runner 2 smartwatch, the manufacturer confirmed integration with the Curve Pay service, which will enable the use of independent NFC payments on Huawei watches. This is important information, especially for Polish users who recently lost access to contactless payments in this brand’s smartwatches.

NFC payments in Huawei watches have so far operated via the Quicko Wallet application – a fintech solution of the Polish company Quicko from Tarnowskie Góry, which has had a license from a national payment institution since September 2021. Unfortunately, in January the Polish Financial Supervision Authority announced a unanimous decision to withdraw this license. According to the regulator, the company did not ensure prudent and stable management of payment services. Quicko must terminate contracts with all users by April 30, 2026.

In this situation, Huawei was left out in the cold, but nature abhors a vacuum. There have been rumors for some time that Curve Pay will be Huawei’s new partner. Now the manufacturer has confirmed it officially.

Huawei WATCH GT Runner 2 will be the first

Curve Pay will first go to Huawei WATCH GT Runner 2 users in selected countries, including Poland. In our country, the device will go on sale on March 9. Huawei will keep you informed about the introduction of NFC payments on subsequent models, but it can be safely assumed that NFC payments will soon also be available for watches from the Huawei Watch GT 6 series and the Watch Ultimate 2 model. At a later date, it should also cover older generations.

To use Curve Pay on your Huawei watch, simply pair it with your Android, HMS or iOS smartphone. Payments can be made with the watch itself – without the need to have your phone with you, which is particularly important during training or running.

Curve Pay is a payment service similar to Google Pay or Apple Pay. After adding almost any Visa or Mastercard card to the Curve wallet, the user can pay with an NFC device and additionally use other services of this fintech. The solution debuted in Poland in 2021 and already has many users in our country, so the new solution should be well received among owners of Huawei watches.
