The answer is: definitely not. In a statement for Tom’s Guide, dermatologist Shamsa Kanwal said that we should try change the bed linen every week.

According to the expert, in the absence of allergies and low sweating, 1–2 weeks this is a reasonable regularity because it settles on the bedding sweat, sebum, dead skin, bacteria and allergens. Kanwal emphasizes that this is why it is worth it don’t wait a full two weeksbut aim for weekly laundry. We are talking here about typical cases that are appropriate for most people.

However, some people should change their bedding even more often. This applies to people who have eczema, asthma, allergies to dust mitestendency to more sweating or very sensitive skin.

Washing bedding more often is recommended not only for these conditions, but also depends on seasons. A typical allergy season lasts from March to September and this is when it is worth washing the bedding more oftenbecause dust mites and allergens persist longer and can cause constant skin irritation.

Dermatologists emphasize that they are the best airy, easy to wash and does not irritate the skin fabrics. It remains the most practical choice cottonespecially for people with sensitive skin – it is soft, breathable and tolerates frequent washing.

The type of fiber also affects the skin temperature during sleep. Materials that retain sweat, especially synthetics, may increase irritation, which is important for people with atopic dermatitis (AD) or very reactive skin.

Editorial staff Wirecutter (from the New York Times) recommends 100% calico cottonbecause it is airy, durable, easy to care for and best suited for everyday use. This is their “gold standard” in the bedding category. Another recommended material is linen (although it is worth paying attention to its softness, as it may be too rough for some people). If possible, pay attention to whether the bedding is made of long-fiber cotton, as it provides greater durability and softness.

The way we wash bedding is also important. Although it is worth following the manufacturer’s label, many sets require it warmer waterto effectively remove sweat, sebum and allergens. Dermatologists recommend washing in hot water, thorough drying before putting it back on and (for people with sensitive skin) using it unscented detergents and avoiding heavily perfumed products.
