German city paralyzed. Google Maps is to blame

And no, what I wrote is not even a bit of exaggeration. This German city has actually been paralyzed due to a Google Maps error. And all because many drivers use navigation even on familiar routes. And there is nothing strange about it: after all, we receive information in advance about roadblocks, works or accidents.

This is also the case here. Well, a section of the A1 motorway was temporarily closed until Sunday, March 8. Unfortunately, information about the blockade also appeared on Tuesday, March 10, during peak hours. Thus, people driving along it started looking for detours. It fell on the nearby city of Leverkusen.

The result was even 10-kilometer traffic jams on almost every street in the city. All because as many as 90% of highway traffic decided to drive through them to avoid the non-existent blockade. As a result, the entire city and the surrounding alternative routes turned into one big traffic jam, while the 10% of people who continued driving on the highway could enjoy an exceptional lack of traffic.

Google promised that it will make every effort to ensure that this incident does not happen again. However, the company emphasized that it obtains information about traffic from reliable sources.
