FBI is coming to Steam. The services are investigating the gaming case

The FBI, i.e. the Federal Bureau of Investigation, investigated the problem of games on Steam. The officers began to contact players who purchased specific games on the platform to identify their creators.

Recently, several games with malicious code have appeared on Steam. According to the FBI, this practice intensified from May 2024 and lasted until January 2026. Therefore, the services have launched a special form in which injured users can report their case.

The list of malicious games includes: BlockBlasters, Chemistry, Dashverse (also known as DashFPS), Lamps, Lunara, PirateFi, and Tokenov. Most of them are small indie productions, but despite this they found a large enough group of people interested in them to cause serious financial damage.

In most cases, the malicious code was intended to steal sensitive user data, including account credentials, browser cookies, and other information from infected computers. One of the victims reported that he lost access to many online accounts.

Valve, of course, knows about the FBI’s investigation and says it is cooperating with law enforcement agencies. Officers are currently collecting information to find out how the malware is spread. This can help determine the entire infrastructure and identify those responsible.
