Audi is rolling out ChatGPT to two million of its cars. Drivers will be able to control their vehicles’ climate, entertainment and navigation systems using their voices. The German carmaker also plans to add the chatbot to all future models.
ChatGPT in Audi cars
Audi said it will integrate GenAI into two million current cars this summer, starting with 2021 models.
In a press statement, Audi said ChatGPT will be added to all vehicles supporting MIB 3, the third generation of the infotainment system used in its cars. The company will use Microsoft Azure OpenAI to add ChatGPT to current models, but will use the Cerence Chat Pro platform in newer cars that support the E3 1.2 electronics architecture, such as the Q6 e-tron1.
The rollout is scheduled for July and will allow drivers to interact with their car using natural language. Audi owners will be able to control infotainment, navigation and air conditioning systems by voice. In addition, ChatGPT will also answer questions on general knowledge.
Audi claims that this solution will increase driving safetyas drivers will not have to take their eyes off the road to operate these systems. To activate the AI assistant, users can press the push-to-talk button on the steering wheel or say, “Hey Audi.”

What may seem like good news for drivers is not so good news for employees. Audi will cut costs by replacing a 60-person writing team with artificial intelligence.
This is another step towards a best-in-class cabin experience in Audi vehicles.
– said Marcus Keith, Vice President Interior Development, Infotainment and Connectivity at Audi.
The German carmaker also plans to use AI in other areas of the production process, saying it wants to “fully leverage the potential of AI.” In addition to implementing new features in cars, such as the ability to ask AI for the correct tire pressure, the company plans to use AI to support quality control in its factories, including checking spot welds and detecting cracks in the bodywork.
At the same time, Audi assures that data security is its top priority and all questions and answers will be deleted after processing. They also emphasize that ChatGPT does not have access to vehicle data. Audi declares that it complies with the EU Data Act and AI Act, and its employees are properly trained in artificial intelligence.
