Ubisoft is falling apart. We are talking about further mass layoffs
Ubisoft is making further major cuts and has fallen victim to them Red Storm Entertainmenta studio that is exceptionally important for the history of games bearing its name Tom Clancy. Team established in 1996 by the writer himself, he does not completely disappear from the industry, but he stops creating games. From now on, he will focus exclusively on supporting other structures of the concern.
Ubisoft has serious financial problems and is looking for savings
According to available information 105 developers lost their jobs. Ubisoft has not issued an official announcement yet, but this decision is in line with… a broader savings plan after previously announced “big reset” companies. Importantly, from the information provided behind the scenes it does not appear that this is the end of similar activities on the side of the French.
It is worth recalling that Red Storm Entertainment was the first to create games based on the popular novels by Tom Clancy and was responsible for the birth of such series as Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon. Ubisoft took over the company only in 2000, when the studio already had an established position in the industry.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
In recent years, however, Red Storm has been associated not so much with tactical shooters, but with VR projects. This was what the team was responsible for Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR prepared with goggles in mind Meta Quest. Looking at the last decade, it is also clear that the role of the studio has gradually changed. The last non-virtual production released by Red Storm was Ghost Recon: Future Soldier from 2012.
Later, the team also worked on projects that ultimately did not make it to the premiere. This includes: o canceled Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland and Splinter Cell VR. The studio also supported other large Ubisoft titles, including The Division and The Division 2, where it participated in the preparation of important gameplay elements, such as Dark Zone, which was very well received by players. However, the French are tightening their belts.
