Receipt when shopping – what is worth knowing

Some time ago, we wrote that a regular receipt can cause many problems and even result in us paying a fine of PLN 500. The idea was to throw the “piece of paper” into the wrong trash can. But what happens when the customer doesn’t take it out of the store at all after making the purchase? In such a case, can the Tax Office pursue him and, even worse, punish him?

It turns out that the law is exceptionally kind to the forgetful.

The regulations do not provide for penalties for customers for leaving a receipt at the point of sale.

we read on the government website.

But it is a clear recommendation that it is better not to leave such a receipt alone. An abandoned receipt can be used by fraudsters. The tax office asks you to always take such a receipt, even if you intend to throw it away immediately after shopping (in mixed shopping, not in the paper container). Unfortunately, there are many reports of dishonest cashiers who, based on the issued proof of purchase, are able to cancel the transaction or issue an empty invoice.

A receipt left behind can be used for fraud.

What if the customer did not receive a receipt from the seller?

It is worth knowing that everyone has the right to report the fact that they have not received a fiscal receipt, and the seller is obliged to issue one. So how do we go about it? It turns out that for this purpose we can use the e-Paragony mobile application, at the tax office (report) or call the 24-hour hotline. You can also report this fact by e-mail to KAS. All guidelines regarding the entire procedure can be found on the government website gov.pl.
