Fraudsters are cleaning out the bank accounts of viewers of well-known VOD services

Criminals send mass e-mails and text messages. The messages look like official correspondence from well-known VOD service providers. The scammers inform about the alleged suspension of subscriptions. The user is told that he or she needs to urgently update his or her payment details. Otherwise, you will lose access to your favorite videos.

There is also the threat of an additional fee for closing the account. Criminals deliberately create time pressure, wanting to force the victim to act quickly. In a hurry, it is easier to make mistakes and overlook minor inaccuracies. Fraudsters often explain the problem with the expiration of the payment card. Other times they mention a lack of funds in the account or a change in billing address.

The key element of the scam is the link in the message. It is often hidden under a button with an inscription encouraging you to update your account. Clicking takes the user to a new website that looks identical to the real login panel of the streaming service. The differences are minimal and very difficult to notice for an ordinary Internet user.

This is where the theft occurs. The unaware user enters his login and password. Then it provides payment card numbers and other financial information. All this data goes straight to cybercriminals. Thieves thus gain access to the victim’s bank account. They can then quickly withdraw all the collected money from it.

The police appeal to people to be vigilant online. The basic rule is to ignore suspicious links in messages. You should never click on links from unreliable sources. You must also not provide login information or card numbers on third party websites. Real platforms rarely require data to be suddenly updated in this way.

When in doubt, act cautiously. It’s best to enter the website address yourself in your browser or use the official application on your phone. There you can safely check your account balance and payments. If someone has provided data to fraudsters, they must act immediately. You should contact your bank immediately. The matter must also be reported to the nearest police station.

Criminals are constantly changing their methods of operation, so it is worth being as careful as possible.
