Google messes up charging on Pixels. The new update is irritating users
The charging optimization feature in Pixel phones has so far worked in a very predictable way (but first required activation in the battery menu). The smartphone connected to the charger was charging at full power up to 80%and then the process was interrupted. When the capacity dropped to 79%, the device resumed power consumption to reach the set limit again. March update completely rebuilt this mechanism.
User reports show that smartphones are now charging at normal speed only up to 76-77%. Once this threshold is exceeded, there is a drastic slowdown, and the last 3-4 percent can be supplemented take up to an hour.
The problem affects many Google phone models. including the newest one Pixel 10a modelwhose maximum charging power should normally be 30 W. Tests conducted by owners of this model show that after reaching 77%, the charging power drops from 22 W to just 0.8 W.
This is not a glitch, this is an intentional action by Google
Although the phones’ behavior looks like a software bug, it is not. Google, responding to the report on the IssueTracker platform, confirms that such a significant slowdown in loading in the final phase is intentional. This is intended to reduce heat release and better manage the health of the cell in the long term. The bug report has been officially closed and marked as “fixed”.
The producer’s decision divided the community. Some users discussing it on Reddit do not see a problem, rightly noting that the difference between 77% and 80% is only a dozen or so minutes of the screen being on and you can simply unplug the phone earlier. However, a large group is demanding selection and the ability to disable the new oneaggressive profile.
The main problem for critics is that the new mechanism makes exploitation virtually impossible bypass power functionwhich on Pixels turns on when the 80% charging limit is enabled and when this level is reached. Since at 77% Pixel draws electricity at a minimum power, intensive use of the phone at this time causes it may never reach the full 80% limit. People who are particularly bothered by the new mechanism introduced by Google must now completely disable the charging limitation function.
