This pattern of fraud intensifies in the spring
Spring is the time when scammers will want to catch single women. The 67-year-old from Piaseczno has already found out for herself that criminals have no scruples in this matter. For three months, one of these scammers deceived her with messages and declarations of love, and then smoothly moved on to requests for money.
Asking for money should already be a “red flag”
The woman was convinced that she was receiving all the photos and messages from a man working abroad, on an oil platform. His biggest dream was to come to Poland and meet her. One thing stood in the way of their shared happiness – the man’s difficult financial situation.
Most of the time, the contact seemed credible and nothing aroused the senior’s suspicions. Following her heart, she decided to help the man and transferred the amount he asked for to his account. The financial assistance she provided him totaled 20 thousand zlotys.
However, the man was disappointed by the fact that, despite the money he had received, he was not eager to come. On the contrary, he began to receive further requests for financial support. And it’s no small thing. The senior woman became suspicious and reported the matter to the police.
You should always be especially careful when making contacts online or by phone. Criminal groups commit fraud by calling landline or mobile phones. When they hear the voice of an elderly person on the other end of the phone, they start to act.
