The study “How does a mortgage loan affect relationships” clearly shows that Poles argue mainly about one type of obligation – a mortgage loan. The study was conducted by the research company Maison&Partners using the CAWI method, on a targeted sample of 325 people with a mortgage loan and in relationships.
Mortgage loan – a bone of contention in relationships
The study shows that as many as 43 percent of couples argue over a mortgage. 20 percent of the time, it is several arguments about this in one month. Every twentieth couple argues about this at least once a week. Most quarrels occur in young relationships, i.e. those lasting less than 5 years.
Why is this happening?
It turns out that the answer is quite trivial. The most common reason for arguments is simply lack of money.
Mortgage disputes often result from problems with repayment. In the case of disputes (…) they are more likely to occur in the case of people who have problems with regulating them.
– says Tomasz Kowalski, managing director of the consulting company ANG Responsible Finance.
Can we avoid this type of quarrel?
Instead of blaming each other for spending too much, it’s better to play it cool. The principle is simple. Before we take out a loan of this type, we should analyze the real possibilities of repaying the debt. It is worth considering various scenarios to save yourself stress in the future.
It turns out that people who run joint finances argue about loans the least often. As many as 68 percent say they do not argue about this aspect at all.
Interestingly, despite all these arguments, as many as 84 percent of respondents said that if they had to decide to take a loan again, they would take the same or a similar loan.
