Urgently delete it from your phone. Google Play apps reveal your data

Unfortunately, sometimes even the Play Store will contain applications that are not safe for Android users. This time it happened with two apps from one developer. In both cases, they steal data.

The first of the mentioned applications is “Video AI Art Generator & Maker”. It has been downloaded over 500,000 times. times. The application is used, among other things, to create graphics and videos using artificial intelligence. These were leaked online.

The report shows that due to poor configuration of Google Cloud Storage, everyone had access to images and videos generated by the application’s users. No authentication was required.

It’s about 2.87 million videos generated, over 386 thousand. audio files, 2.87 million graphics and many other files, including those sent by users themselves. In total, the entire database has a capacity of 12 TB and contains 8.27 million files collected since the beginning of the application, i.e. since June 2023.

The second application called IDMerit is also a problem. In her case, private user data was leaked, including:

• names and surnames
• addresses with postal code
• date of birth
• telephone numbers
• sex
• email addresses
• telecommunications metadata
• ID cards
• social media profiles

Such information can be used in many other scamsincluding taking out loans and credits for other people, phishing attacks or taking over accounts on various websites and services. It is known that the situation affects users from as many as 26 countries, including Europe. The good news is that Poland is not on the list.

The apps themselves are not designed to steal user data. However, they were poorly secured. Fortunately, the developer – Codeway – fixed its errors at the beginning of February. It doesn’t change the fact that the milk was spilled.
