Netflix wants to make two changes to the app. You’ll notice right away
Netflix wants to modernize its mobile application
Since the beginning of the year, Netflix has been analyzing how its application could re-enter the video market, which is currently dominated by social media such as TikTok and YouTube. During Tuesday’s press conference, during which the platform presented its financial results for the previous quarter, the company also announced plans to modernize its mobile application.
First and foremost, the streaming platform wants to expand its short video feature, which could help it promote its new collection of original video podcasts that it recently unveiled.
The premiere of the new mobile application is scheduled for the end of 2026which was confirmed by one of the presidents, Greg Peters. The new version of the Netflix application “is intended to better serve the development of the company’s business in the coming decade.” The planned update is also intended to be a solid foundation for further experimentation, allowing Netflix to “iterate, evolve and improve” its offering.
Netflix application – what will change?
We will get more short films. The main point of change is deeper integration of vertical video channels. This channel displays short clips of Netflix shows and movies in a format similar to TikTok and Instagram Reels. Netflix sees sliding, short clips as a powerful tool to attract the user’s attention and extend the time spent in the application. The platform also promises users a new type of content – video podcasts.
We’ll add more clips based on new content types, such as video podcasts.
Admittedly, the planned changes are an expression of the desire to make searching for content and everyday interactions on Netflix even more similar to the experience on the social platform.
