NVIDIA and MediaTek have entered into cooperation. They create a new arrangement

NVIDIA is the current leader in the artificial intelligence market. Their AI accelerators offer superior performance that neither can match AMDmuch less Intel. It doesn’t look like it will change any time soon, and all the giants are seeking the Greens’ agreements – Google, Meta, OpenAI, Oracle and Elon Musk himself.

MediaTek may be planning to enter the laptop market

However, the latest news from China suggests that NVIDIA has started cooperation with MediaTek. The goal is to develop a system for working with artificial intelligence, which will be based on 3nm lithography. Interestingly, it is not about SoCs for smartphones, but… AI processor for personal computers.

If Chinese sources are to be believed, it is described the system will enter the final stage of the design process later this month. Mass production is planned for the second half of 2025. Unfortunately, this is where the specifics end and the rumors and guesses begin.

One possibility is MediaTek’s attempt to enter the market of laptops with ARM processors. Just like Apple did first and then Qualcomm. In the case of the Snapdragon X family, the biggest drawback turned out to be a weak iGPU. So cooperation with NVIDIA, which has experience in graphics cards, could be invaluable. Additionally an efficient NPU would support Microsoft Copilot+ features.

This would not be strange, because the same companies have prepared laptops with the mentioned Qualcomm systems. Of course, raw performance is one thing, but a lot will also depend on the refinement of the drivers.
