Ubisoft is in trouble. The company may be bought by the Chinese

One of the largest game producers in Europe is going through a difficult period. Their latest game is barely selling and shareholders are unhappy.

Ubisoft is a French game producer and publisher present on the market since 1986, with branches in over 20 different countries. Their portfolio includes such large, loud and popular series as: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Tom Clancy’s, Prince of Persia, Watch Dogs, Rayman and much more.

No more experiments, time to return to the classics

Recently, however, the French have been in… serious trouble. Only in the last three months the company’s value decreased by over 28%which of course does not please shareholders. How the main reasons are given for failure Star Wars: Outlaws and controversies related to Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.

As reported by the Bloomberg news agency, Chinese Tencent and Guillemot Brothers plan to buy out Ubisoft. This is to help stabilize the company. However, the talks are at a very early stage and there is no guarantee of success. Still this had a significant impact on the value of the shares, increasing their price from approximately 10.70 to 14.20 euros.

It is worth noting that Guillemot Brothers LTD is a family company in which some members are directly responsible for founding Ubisoft. GBL currently holds 20% of the company’s votes and Tencent another 9.2%.. None of the entities decided to officially comment on the matter.

Will the Ubisoft buyout have an impact on players? Probably not anytime soon. However, it may affect publishing plans and the way of working in the future. If this happens, we should expect less experiments with black assassins and more of a return to the studio’s classics.
