Iconic Porsche turns 50. Anniversary model takes off its cap
Porsche is launching an exclusive anniversary model of its iconic sports car. Why? It’s hard to believe it’s already the car’s 50th birthday.
As announced by the manufacturer, The Porsche 911 Turbo 50 Years combines exceptional performance and the finest materials with exclusive design elements. The interior and exterior are inspired by the historic 911 Turbo models, but are complemented with timelessly elegant and contemporary styling elements. Importantly, the anniversary version will be available in very limited numbers. Just 1,974 of these vehicles will leave the Porsche stable to celebrate the year in which the first 911 Turbo debuted.
What’s hidden in this old-new Porsche?
The Porsche 911 Turbo Type 930 combined sports car capabilities with unique design and unparalleled everyday usability. The anniversary model 911 Turbo 50 Years is based on the 911 Turbo S introduced in 2019. The standard vinyl side graphics are a nod to the historic colours of the Porsche 911 RSR Turbo introduced at the 1973 Frankfurt Motor Showwhich itself was a forerunner of the 911 Turbo. When you open the doors, an LED projector projects an image of the turbocharger onto the ground next to the car.
As for the interior, there are even more stylistic references and unique accents. Above the glove compartment, there is, for example, an anniversary aluminum plaque featuring both the Turbo 50 logo and the individual limited edition number this sports car. Those who still don’t have enough history can opt for the additional Heritage Design package.
When it comes to the capabilities of this car, we can expect a 3.7-liter twin-turbocharged engine, which provides power of 478 kW (650 hp) Combined fuel consumption is estimated at just over 12 litres per 100 kilometres. The 911 Turbo 50 needs just 2.7 seconds to reach 100 km/h and 8.9 seconds to twice that speed.
If you can’t afford a car, how about a watch?
Together with the premiere of the old-new car, Porsche is also announcing a unique watch that is to be a tribute to the anniversary model. The timepiece will also hit the market in a limited edition of 1,974 pieces and will feature stylistic references to the announced car. The price is, as a matter of fact, almost 60,000 zlotys.
And speaking of the car, deliveries will begin in autumn 2024. The limited edition 911 Turbo 50th anniversary model is already available for viewing. You will find it at the special exhibition Beyond Performance – 50 Years of Porsche Turbo at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. On the manufacturer’s website the new Porsche is priced at a minimum of $261,100, or approximately PLN 1 million 13 thousand.
