Your texting app will become better. Update

Google News is – in my opinion – a bit of a ghost application. Most Android users use it, and they probably don’t even know it. And this is the app that handles, among other things, SMS messages on our phones. It will soon become even better.

Google News app with changes

Already in 2024, Google started testing changes to the Messages app. They took a lot of time, but they are finally being introduced in the full version of the application, and thus for all its users.

The main novelty concerns how the message status will be marked, which will now be located inside a colorful bubble in its lower right corner:

  • Circle with ellipsis – the message is being sent
  • A circle with a single check mark – the message has been sent
  • Circle with a double tick – the message has been delivered
  • Full circle with a double tick – the message has been read

Additionally, swiping a message to the left will show the exact time it was sent and whether it has end-to-end encryption (E2EE). In the latter case, we will see either a crossed out (no encryption) or a regular padlock icon.

However, an interesting change promises to be that it will allow users of the Google News application to share their location. If we decide to do so, there will be three options to choose from: time, only today and manually set time. In this case, our location will be displayed to the interlocutor at the top of the conversation. Clicking on it will launch a special view from Google Maps.
