Your phone will create the necessary applications itself. Nothing launches Essential Apps

Essential Apps was first shown in October 2025 on the social media platform Playground. The idea is simple: the user describes what application he needs – for example, a reminder about meetings in a given location or a widget with a countdown to an event – and AI Builder he creates it himself and places it directly on your phone’s home screen.

Beta starts on Nothing Phone (3)

The beta version starts after a closed alpha, previously available to a small group of Playground users. Access is currently being expanded gradually through a waiting list.

For now, the program is working exclusively on the Nothing Phone model (3) – as the company explains, this equipment offers the necessary performance to run many mini applications at the same time. A beta will also be made available in the following months for other smartphones Nothing and CMF running Nothing OS 4.0 or later.

Essential Apps currently support three types of permissions: location, calendar (read only) and contacts. Thanks to this, you can create, for example, location-based reminders, agenda views or shortcuts to selected contacts.

More opportunities are on the way – including access to camera and microphone, network connections, vibration, notifications, Bluetooth and sensor data. With the system update scheduled for the end of February, Nothing also announces the introduction of support for activity recognition, usage statistics, sensor data and the system weather API.

The company emphasizes that Essential Apps is just one part of a broader AI ecosystem under the name Essential Suitewhich also includes Essential Space – for quickly saving ideas, Essential Search – a search engine with direct answers, and Essential Memory – contextual memory helpful in recalling information.

As the brand’s CEO, Carl Pei, previously announced, Nothing’s goal is to create a system that adapts to the user’s way of thinking, and not the other way around. According to the head of Nothing, in the future the system on the phone will know its user in detail, and the interface will adapt itself to their needs and context. A public release of Essential Apps is planned for a later stage in 2026after completing the tests and perfecting integration with the system.
