Xbox cancels new console. It was too ambitious
Microsoft was at one point working on a console that many called the Xbox Mini. However, the device was never created, but the patent reveals what it was supposed to look like.
Many months ago, rumors were circulating about a new Xbox console. It even appeared on the shelf of Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft’s gaming division. Ultimately, the device was never built, but one patent reveals what it was supposed to look like.
Xbox Mini
Xbox Mini, as many people called the console, was supposed to be about 15 cm wide. Its size resembled NUC series computers, so it would be a really small device. At the back there was space for an Ethernet, HDMI and probably USB-C port. There was supposed to be a switch and another USB port on the front.

Rumors suggested that the console would allow for streaming games from the cloud as part of the Xbox Game Pass service. Therefore, games would not run natively on it, but today there is nothing strange about it. Similar systematic services are gaining popularity and players are becoming more and more willing to play in the cloud.

Why then was the console never created? Because she was too ambitious, at least for the moment. It’s not about the amazing specifications, because it was supposed to be a very basic and cheap device. The problem turned out to be the price. Microsoft wanted the Xbox Mini to cost no more than $129, and that simply turned out to be impossible.
