A few mishaps, plus unsuccessful launches, and Intel got into big trouble. In less than a year, the company’s stock price dropped from almost $50 to just $25. Today, Intel is valued at almost $104 billion.
For comparison, AMD can boast a result that is more than twice as high ($223.5 billion). In turn, NVIDIA has become the largest company in the world (changing positions with Apple all the time) with a valuation of approximately $3.5 trillion (35 times more than Intel).
Qualcomm will not buy Intel
It seemed that a kind of salvation for Blue could be the takeover by Qualcomm, which is not a much larger company (valued at $172.1 billion), but has a much more stable position.
Such a connection would also make a lot of sense. Qualcomm is one of the leaders in the field of mobile equipment, and Intel has so far done well in the computer segment, and it also has ambitious plans in the field of AI systems, which have driven up NVIDIA’s valuation so much.
However, the merger will probably not take place. Bloombegra reports that Qualcomm has withdrawn its proposal to buy Intel. The takeover was said to be too complicated from a legal perspective. The aforementioned Intel problems certainly didn’t help either.
Qualcomm is now expected to look for other ways to expand. Taking over part of Blue’s business is being considered. The company’s target is the segment of consumer processors, i.e. desktop and laptop processors. However, the company is not interested in other branches, including server systems.
