We won't be able to afford food? Experts warn against inflation
Climate change will lead to an increase in food prices. Scientists have estimated the impact on inflation.
Global warming or, more precisely, climate change it is a serious threat that we increasingly struggle with on a daily basis. At the same time, however, we often have trouble imagining how rising temperatures may affect our lives. Because, as it turns out, they influence in a very tangible way.
Climate change will affect food prices
A group of German scientists associated with the University of Potsdam and the European Central Bank determined what impact rising temperatures will have on food prices in the coming years. According to their analysis, food prices will increase every year from 0.9 to 3.2 percentage points every year until 2035 (further years were not included in the research). The impact of global warming on overall inflation is expected to be within the range 0.3 – 1.2 percentage points.
The described phenomenon is expected to occur globally, and although in some regions the increase in food prices will be felt much more strongly (mainly Africa and the southern hemisphere), in Europe we will not miss it. At the same time, it is worth remembering that the models described focus only on inflation resulting directly from climate change. In practice, it will certainly be influenced by other economic factors, which may lead to an even greater increase in prices.
