We finally know the price of this new electric car competing with the Tesla Model Y

The manufacturer Zeekr, to whom we owe the famous electric car with a range of 1,000 km, is arriving in Europe. In addition to the Zeekr 001 sedan, the Chinese firm unveils the characteristics and price of the compact SUV named Zeekr X. It is based on the Volvo EX30 and Smart #1. In the line of sight, the Tesla Model Y and Renault Mégane E-Tech.

2023 is a pivotal year for electric cars in Europe, with the arrival of new players. While the Chinese group SAIC’s MG4 is selling like hot cakes, a new manufacturer is preparing its arrival in Europe. This is Zeekr, a (big) startup integrated into the Chinese giant Geely, which has acquired Volvo, Polestar as well as Lotus and part of Smart. We have already discussed the arrival in Europe of the Zeekr 001 sedan, and here we are now in the presence of its smaller, more affordable sibling, the Zeekr X.

Zeekr X: two different versions

The Zeekr X is based on the same SEA platform of the Volvo EX30 and Smart #1. We are on the same format, with a length of 4.432 meters. It has the same negative point as its cousins, with a trunk limited to 362 liters. Like its cousins, it exists in different versions: Long Range RWD and Privilege AWD. Power, autonomy and equipment differ between these two versions, as can be seen in the table below.

Zeekr 001 Long Range RWD Privilege AWD
Autonomy 440km 400km
Battery 69 kWh 69 kWh
Engine Propulsion All-wheel drive
Power 200kW / 272hp 315kW / 428hp
Couple 343Nm 543 Nm
0 to 100 km/h 5.6sec 3.8 sec
Consumption 16.4kWh/100km 18.3kWh/100km
Towing capacity 1.6 tons 1.6 tons
Weight 1,855kg 1960kg
Price €44,990 €49,490

The maximum autonomy is given for 440 km on the mixed WLTP certification cycle, with a battery (NMC chemistry) of 69 kWh from CATL. Direct current charging is very fast, since it takes 28.8 minutes to go from 10 to 80%. A value that reminds us of that of the Volvo EX30, in Chinese or American version. Good surprise, since (it’s very rare), the car incorporates an alternating current charger with a power of 22 kW, which allows you to refuel in 4 hours at home.

Many embedded technologies

The Zeekr X differs from the Smart #1 and the Volvo EX30 by its on-board technologies. There is a 14.6-inch central screen (it is motorized on the Chinese version, to be able to place it, as desired, in the middle or facing the passenger) as well as an 8.8-inch instrument cluster. A 24.3-inch head-up display is also included.. As on the Zeekr 001, the car features a Snapdragon 8155 processor with 16 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage to run various applications and games.

The panoramic roof is standard, as are the ventilated, heated seats (and massaging in Privilege finish). There are driving aids for level 2 semi-autonomous driving, with an adaptive cruise control and centering in the lane. There is also facial recognition to unlock the car. Unfortunately, we do not find certain technologies reserved for the Chinese 4-seater version, such as the integrated cooler, the motorized screen or the exterior screen on the door pillar.

Price and availability

The Zeekr X is already available at pre-order, in Sweden and the Netherlands, for estimated deliveries between October and December 2023. It costs 45,990 euros for the Long Range Single Motor version and 50,490 euros for the Zeekr X Dual Motor. The Chinese manufacturer should extend the countries of marketing from 2024, knowing that it intends to be present in most countries of Western Europe by 2026.

The price is particularly competitive, since it can be compared to that of a Tesla Model Y, which starts from 45,990 euros, but with a superior size and habitability. If you want to have fun comparing with the competition, we compared the Volvo EX30 with a dozen similar cars. The Renault Mégane E-Tech is a good competitor too.
