watch out for the price increase that is coming
In the wake of Netflix, Disney+ has taken the step and decided to review its prices. The pivotal date, November 1, 2023, promises significant price changes.
Last summer, we learned that Disney+ was going to follow the trend initiated by Netflix, which has just increased its prices again, by adjusting its prices. With November 1, 2023 as the deadline, the streaming platform recalls the details of its new offers. If you’re considering subscribing or renewing your subscription, here’s what to remember.
Price increase: the Premium offer is expanding
With an increase of three euros, the Disney+ Premium subscription will now be billed at 11.99 euros per month. Per year, this sum represents 119.90 euros, an increase of 30 euros. Choosing the annual option always has a financial advantage: by opting for this formula, the equivalent of two months is offered compared to a monthly payment.
Subscription Type | Price | Definition | Simultaneous readings | Offline downloads | Sound quality | Advertisement |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Current subscription | €8.99/month €89.90/year |
Up to 4K Ultra HD and HDR | – | – | Dolby Atmos sound (compatible content) | Without advertising |
Premium subscription (from 01/11) | €11.99/month €119.90/year |
Up to 4K Ultra HD and HDR | 4 | Up to 10 devices | Dolby Atmos sound (compatible content) | Without advertising |
Standard Subscription (from 01/11) | €8.99/month €89.90/year |
Up to 1080p Full HD | 2 | Up to 10 devices | 5.1 surround sound (compatible content) | Without advertising |
Standard subscription with advertising (from 01/11) | €5.99/month | Up to 1080p Full HD | 2 | Not available | 5.1 surround sound (compatible content) | With advertising |
This more expensive premium offering offers users streaming quality up to 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Atmos sound, allowing for an incomparable immersive experience. Additionally, users will be able to enjoy four simultaneous streams and be able to download their favorite content for offline playback on ten different devices.
Standard offers: with or without advertising
For users who do not wish to invest in the premium offer, Disney+ has thought of everything by retaining its old price for a new standard offer. Billed 8.99 euros per month or 89.90 euros per year, this subscription provides access to content in Full HD definition. The sound, although good with surround, does not include the Dolby Atmos function. Two simultaneous streams will be available, as will download functionality for offline playback.
However, for those looking for an even more economical solution, Disney+ is introducing a standard ad-supported offering. At 5.99 euros per month, users will have access to the entire catalog, but will have to prepare for advertising interruptions when viewing films and series. As with the standard offer, content will be available in Full HD with surround sound, but without Dolby Atmos. Two devices can be used simultaneously, but the offline function will be absent.
For existing customers: status quo… for now
Good news for those who already have a Disney+ subscription: prices will remain unchanged for the moment. From November 1, 2023, existing subscriptions will be converted to a premium offer at no additional cost. However, this special offer has a limited time. If Disney confirmed that it would remain in place “subject to future changes“, the exact period of this promotion remains mysterious. The good plan is therefore to subscribe before November 1 to an annual subscription.
