Viewers have a grudge against “A Knight and the Seven Kingdoms”. The creator defends himself
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” why are the episodes so short?
Sometimes we wait very long for something, and then the creators give us little time to enjoy their work. It must be admitted that for a series from the Game of Thrones universe, 30 minutes is really not enough to get into the atmosphere and get involved in the action. That is why the duration of episodes is the main complaint from viewers when it comes to this particular production. Many people express their disappointment in this matter and hold grudges about it, which can be seen on social media.
There’s no denying that this is quite disappointing after we’re used to the fact that “Game of Thrones” and “Road of the Dragon” had episodes lasting almost an hour.
Ira Parker, the showrunner responsible for the series and all related decisions, responded to these allegations:
We don’t drag out the plot. We don’t create subplots for Dunk and Egg. We wrote the script the same way George RR Martin wrote his 300-page book.
Ira Parker explains that the decision on the duration of the episodes was a kind of compromise between the creators and the writer. The latter was concerned that if such a short story was adapted into a TV series, the story would be artificially stretched. Hence the decision to make the episodes concise and 30 minutes long. This was a deliberate and intentional decision from the very beginning.
The fourth episode of the series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” can be watched from today on HBO Max. The premiere on HBO will take place in the evening, at 8:50 p.m.
