Typing on your phone will become much easier. No more mistakes

Typing on Gboard on Android can be irritating at times. Each of us has had a strange typo or bad autocorrection that can completely change a word, and sometimes even the meaning of the entire sentence. That’s why Google is preparing a change to make it easier to correct such errors.

No more Android keyboard errors

I suspect some of you may not know this, but the Gboard keyboard on Android now has a mechanism that makes correcting typos a little easier. Until recently, I tried to point my finger at the place in the text where I made a mistake. However, there is an easier solution. Just hold your finger on the spacebar to move the cursor left and right, letter by letter.

The problem is that in the current version of Gboard you can only move the cursor left and right, which is not very convenient for longer text. Meanwhile, the application code in beta version 16.8.2 reveals a new “Cursor mode”, which is supposed to be a big help.

After holding down the space bar for a long time, the keys disappear, a virtual touch panel appears and a visible cursor appears. You can drag it to any place – also to another line or paragraph, i.e. up and down.

This significantly improves the correction of errors because you no longer have to repeatedly move the cursor to the end of the line and then up/down to find the right part of the text. For now, the feature has been hidden in the code and enabled only for testing purposes, so there is no guarantee when it will be included in the stable release of Gboard.
