Online sellers started receiving letters from OLX, Allegro and Vinted. In them, they are asked to provide their data because they have exceeded the transaction threshold specified in the EU DAC7 directive. Many of them panic and are afraid of tax authorities’ audits. However, experts assure that this is still a long way away, reports Rzeczpospolita.

Panic among sellers

We would like to remind you that in July the EU DAC7 directive came into force in Poland. According to it, all online sales platforms, including Allegro, OLX, Vinted, Booking and Airbnb, must inform the Tax Office about each seller who exceeded certain limits in a given year. These amount to 30 transactions or a total amount of PLN 2,000. euro.

Therefore, websites have started to prepare for this obligation and are asking sellers affected by the new regulations to complete their data. Some of them have already received official letters regarding this matter, which caused a huge panic.

I’m on the verge of a nervous breakdown, for me it’s a tragedy, I don’t know if I should delete my account now and leave Poland before I finish with the sentence.

However, experts warn that there is a long way from providing data to tax authorities’ inspection. Being on the list does not automatically mean problems and the need to pay outstanding taxes. The aspect of income is very important here, among other things, so if we sell private items at lower prices than we bought them, there is no reason to worry. The tax authorities cannot consider this as running a business.

However, problems will be faced by those who are actually considered sellers who should run a business and pay taxes on it. There is certainly no shortage of people who have avoided their duties for years. In January, the National Tax Administration will receive data for 2023 and 2024. If the tax office detects any wrongdoing, it may file a claim for overdue taxes dating back up to 5 years.
