This smartphone is a sure hit. Anyone who buys it before July 2 will break the bank
We checked OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G in action. Will the new smartphone convince Polish users?
Some people treat smartphones as a status symbol; they expect top specification and a revolution with the premiere of each new model. For others, the phone is a kind of extension of the hand. It has to be practical and reliable. I suspect the latter group will greatly appreciate it OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G.
Because in fact, this is how you can describe OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G: it is a painfully practical smartphone. No fireworks and no top parameters, but… contrary to appearances, this works to his advantage.
Or at least that’s what it looks like at first glance, because if we dig a little deeper into what OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G has to offer, we will quickly discover that it is a smartphone packed with modern solutions based on artificial intelligence. They are supposed to be its main distinguishing feature and turn the way we use smartphones upside down.
Simplicity and elegance
At first glance, OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G is a simple smartphone that doesn’t stand out from the crowd, but it’s hard to deny it has a certain amount of elegance. A slim silhouette, a nicely broken texture on the back and a display that effectively fills the entire front of the housing. It’s a phone that looks good, but without any cheap flashiness (at least in the black version).

It’s worth looking at the screen for a while, because it is definitely the device’s strong point. It is a unit AMOLED diagonal 6.7” and resolution 1080×2412. Near the edges, the screen has been slightly curved, which may not be noticeable, but it helps reduce the width of the frame surrounding it. We also have level refreshment 120Hz, and the manufacturer boasts very good color reproduction. I haven’t had the opportunity to fully measure this panel yet, but organoleptically it looks really good.
Average, but it’s enough
The European OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G is a completely different beast than the Chinese model of the same name. There we were dealing with equipment aspiring to be a flagship – or at least a “flagship killer”. The phone that will appear in Polish stores cannot boast such ambitions. In terms of specifications, it is largely a typical mid-range model.

The heart of the device is the processor MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy, i.e. a special version of the system prepared especially for OPPO. In addition, the copy I received included it 12 GB RAM and 512 GB internal memory. This is not a specification that allows you to break performance records, but it is enough for the phone to work very quickly and responsively. Honestly? After spending a few days with the device, I could easily believe that I was dealing with a model equipped with a top processor, just like in China.
Besides, I think that what is much more important is the fact that we have a large battery on board – specifically with a capacity 5000 mAh – with support for fast charging with power up to 80 W. This is a lifesaver in emergency situations and I am very glad that OPPO has not given up the strong emphasis on this particular aspect.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer is criticized for not including a charger in the set. Considering that the fast charging here uses a proprietary standard SUPERVOOC, this is a big inconvenience for users who would like to use the full power of the fast charging here. Fortunately, we are not completely left out in the cold, because OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G also supports the popular USB Power Delivery standard. Unfortunately, we then have “only” 55 W
Artificial intelligence with a human twist
What I liked most about OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G is the software. We have it here Android 14 with overlay ColorOS 14.1. This is the same interface found on other OPPO devices. The overlay is very different from “pure” Android, but it is there in my opinion one of the most transparent and intuitive on the market.
I won’t go into much detail about ColorOS here, because it’s a topic for a full review. However, I must praise the way the manufacturer implemented AI functions. Because you know – it’s 2024. You can’t make a product without AI. Fortunately, in the case of OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G, the artificial intelligence-based functionality was implemented much more subtly than in the competition, which I really appreciate.

Most AI-related functions can be accessed from the shortcut bar on the side. It constantly adapts to the displayed content. For example, after opening a web browser, you will find shortcuts to the summary and voiceover functions. I especially liked the first one. It doesn’t work in Polish, but it doesn’t work at all efficiently extracts key information from English texts. I am also pleased with the results obtained using the AI functions built into the photo editor.
By far my favorite tool is AI eraser, allowing you to easily remove selected objects from a photo. Using it is child’s play – after selecting a photo in the editor, just click on the tool icon and then select the part of the frame with the unwanted element. We don’t have to be very precise about this, because the phone itself understands perfectly what we want to delete. If we want to erase passers-by from the frame, it will erase passers-by. If the mountain skyline is marred by a telephone pole, he will remove the telephone pole. It works really nice. The function works on a similar principle Smart Contouring 2.0which allows you to cut out a selected element from a photo, e.g. a specific person or animal, and then paste it into a note, message, or simply save it in the device’s memory as a new image.

And that’s not all, because there are many more such practical tools on board. Many of them may seem imperceptible at first glance. For example, AI Clear Voice, a tool for removing ambient noise during phone calls, thanks to which we can talk comfortably, e.g. in a rickety tram or straight from a loud party. Another solution of this type is AI LinkBoost, using artificial intelligence to manage network connection. Thanks to this, depending on the needs, the phone efficiently switches between Wi-Fi and packet data, while ensuring better coverage in difficult conditions, e.g. in an elevator or in an underground parking lot. Just practical tools instead of cheap, flashy tricks.
Sure, there’s nothing revolutionary here, but does it have to be? Especially since I use the same functions that can be found in the competition much better when no one tries to force them on me. In short, I like OPPO’s approach in this regard.
OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G – first impressions
Unfortunately, I haven’t had time to fully test the OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G yet, so it’s difficult for me to write anything meaningful about the camera or the real durability of the battery. However, I can confidently say that the manufacturer offers a strong competitor that should appeal to Polish users.

OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G will ultimately cost PLN 2,499, however, if we decide to purchase it until July 2, 2024, we can get a special premiere offer. As part of it, the phone will be available for PLN 300 cheaper, i.e. for now PLN 2,199.
