Artificial intelligence startup Unbabel doesn’t beat around the bush. He claims that the profession of a translator will no longer be needed. Unbabel’s AI application will take jobs from this profession. You won’t have to wait long for this. The startup’s CEO is convinced that this change will happen within the next three years.
Unbabel announced the introduction of a translation service based on artificial intelligence. The CEO warns that in three years, people dealing with translations will most likely lose their jobs. Widn.AI is a new product from Unbabel, based on a large language model (LLM) called Tower. LMM is the model that forms the basis of applications such as ChatGPT. The new AI service translates in 32 languages.
I think humans still have a slight advantage in very difficult cases. But that advantage is so razor-thin right now that, except for the really (…) hardest use cases, we believe AI is really taking off, and I find it hard to believe that in three years we’ll need humans to translate anything
– said Vasco Pedro, CEO of Unbabel, during the Web Summit in Lisbon.
Unbabel’s traditional product until now combined machine learning with human editors. Their task was primarily to check the final product. Now the director is convinced that WidnAI will no longer require human participation.
