This luxury electric juggernaut eclipses Tesla

Between ostentatious luxury and advanced technology, this oversized electric SUV is likely to be talked about.

The age of automotive electrification has brought us vehicles of all shapes and sizes. But, sometimes, the electric can rhyme with ostentation, as is the case with the Cadillac Escalade IQ. If you thought all electric vehicles were synonymous with minimalism and efficiency, this new SUV just might change your mind.

A technological monster

Next to the Cadillac Escalade IQ, the Tesla Model Y, the world’s best-selling electric SUV, looks almost timid. It’s not just a question of size (although with its 5.697 meters in length…). General Motors, the parent company of Cadillac, has equipped this monster with all the high-tech equipment imaginable.

imagine a surround sound system with up to 40 AKG speakers, a 55-inch diagonal touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipAnd an integrated 5G modem.

If that’s not enough to impress you, know that this vehicle also carries Android-Automotive. This means that you will have access to the Google Assistant, Google Play and Google Maps directly from the dashboard.

And for those looking for luxury in the details, the optional motorized doors might just appeal to you. Imagine approaching the vehicle and seeing the driver’s door open by itself upon detection of your key.

Between power and autonomy

But what about performance? This is where the Escalade IQ stands out even more. With a 200 kWh battery, the advertised range is 724 kilometers.

In addition, thanks to a fast 800-volt recharge, a 10-minute break will give you an additional 160 kilometres. This battery can also, in theory, serve as a backup battery for a home, although this remains to be confirmed in practice.

As for power, the twin engine promises 750 horsepower under the hoodallowing this enormous SUV to reach 100 km/h in just five seconds.

A giant against the tide

Despite all these impressive characteristics, one cannot help but wonder about the ecological relevance of such dimensions and such luxury in a world in search of sobriety and energy efficiency. While the automotive industry seems to be moving towards more environmentally friendly solutions, the Cadillac Escalade IQ seems to be an SUV of excess, in total contradiction with this trend.

Production will begin in the summer of 2024, with a starting price set at $130,000. It remains to be seen whether the public will warmly welcome this electric behemoth or whether they will prefer more reasoned and ecological options.
