This is what PlayStation 5 Pro is supposed to look like. Sony is preparing a powerful console
It’s no secret that Sony is working on PlayStation 5 Pro. The console will probably go on sale at the end of 2024. We have just learned its possible specifications.
The probable specifications of the PlayStation 5 Pro console were revealed by the creator of the Moore’s Law is Dead channel. He is well-known in the industry and has had many leaks confirmed over time, but it should also be noted that not all of his information was accurate. Therefore, the following revelations should be treated with some caution.
PlayStation 5 Pro specifications
According to the YouTuber’s knowledge, work on PlayStation 5 Pro ended about a year ago and the device is waiting for the moment when Sony decides to make an official announcement and market premiere. Interestingly, the Japanese are still not supposed to be 100 percent. convinced that they want the device to go on sale. However, there is a good chance of this happening.
PS5 Pro will use the improved Viola system, which will offer, among others, an 8-core and 16-thread processor with Zen 2 architecture. This one is to have an increased clock speed of up to 4.4 GHz. When it comes to cache, we can expect 64 KB L1 per core, 512 KB L2 per core and 8 MB L3 in total (4 MB each for CCX). The system is to be created in 4 nm lithography and manufactured by TSMC.
However, in this case, the graphics system is more important. In PS5 Pro, Sony is to use a fully unlocked core with 60 CU (although 56 CU is also possible). For comparison, the regular PlayStation 5 has 36 CU, so the difference would be significant. In addition, there is 16 GB of GDDR6 18 Gbps memory on a 256-bit bus, which gives a bandwidth of 576 GB/s. According to Moore’s Law is Dead, it is also possible to use faster 20 Gbps modules.
According to previous rumors, Sony is to equip the Pro version of the console with an NPU (Neural Processing Unit) system to handle tasks related to artificial intelligence. Moore’s Law is Dead does not confirm this, but at the same time it does not rule it out. The premiere will probably take place at the end of 2024, just before the holiday season, which is always the best in terms of sales of this type of equipment.
