They would rather turn back time and not answer that phone call. And that’s for sure
The police are sounding the alarm once again. The displayed bank number or institution name does not mean that we are talking to real bank employees. The fraudsters have reaped their harvest again.
Scammed by a bank employee
Two residents of Zduńska Wola were unlucky with money. In just one day, they lost a total of PLN 40,000. One lost PLN 7,700, the other PLN 32,000. The men were victims of fraud involving bank employees.
A bank employee called the first of the injured parties, claiming that someone was trying to take out a loan of PLN 50,000 on his behalf. He convinced him that it was necessary to make quick arrangements for this situation. And of course he gave clear instructions on how to proceed.
He ordered the man to take out a loan from the bank for the highest possible amount in order to “block” the account. Then, transfer everything to another designated account.
– reports Staff Sergeant Katarzyna Biniaszczyk from the police in Zduńska Wola.
And this is how the man, instead of securing his savings, lost PLN 32,000.
The second victim is a 22-year-old man who was called by a woman under the guise of purchasing sports equipment. Word by word, the woman extorted all his bank details from him. But that’s not the end. After a while, another person called him, pretending to be a bank employee, alerting him that someone was trying to hack into his account. To regain control of the account, he must follow the instructions and provide the codes he receives on his phone. In this way, the 22-year-old lost PLN 7,700.
Both cases are under investigation. However, the police appeal once again – the fact that the phone number or name of the bank is displayed does not necessarily mean that we are talking to this institution. And the bank will certainly never ask us to withdraw cash and transfer it to another account.
