They will look into Poles’ cars. You may face a fine of up to PLN 500
Do you drive a car? Don’t hold the phone in your hand
As Dziennik.pl reminds, Using a smartphone while driving increases the risk of an accident by as much as four times. It is assumed that a driver absorbed in a telephone conversation reacts on average 30 percent slower than under normal conditions. This is dangerous both in terms of braking and maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles. We’re not even talking about texting. This is sometimes compared to driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. When performing this activity, the driver’s eyes turn away from the road and his attention is focused only on the device screen. This means that the car moves “in the dark” for a few seconds.
Using your phone while driving – what does the law say?
Art. 45 section 2 point 1 of the Road Traffic Law states clearly – the driver of a vehicle is prohibited from using a telephone that requires holding it in his hand while driving. The provision applies not only to conversations, but also to any use of the device that requires holding it in the hand (so checking the navigation is also an option).
Therefore, you should also be careful when using navigation in this way. If we use it incorrectly, we may also be fined. If a driver uses maps while holding the phone in his hand, he is also acting against the rules. If the police catch him doing this, he will also face financial consequences.
Phones in hand – increasingly harsher penalties
Penalties have only been getting tougher for some time now. Today for holding a phone in your hand while driving, you will pay a fine of up to PLN 500 and receive 12 penalty points. A few years ago, these were much less severe consequences.
But we can only use the phone via a speakerphone and headphones. The smartphone should be placed on a special holder.
