They can’t do it without Musk. NASA asks for help
Elon Musk just received $843 million from NASA. He was asked to help remove the international space station from orbit.
Musk will build a spaceship with NASA money
NASA just gave Elon Musk’s SpaceX a contract worth $843 million. Under the agreement, the American billionaire’s company is to build spacecraft, that will be able to extract the International Space Station from orbit when it becomes unusable.
International space station
The International Space Station was launched into space in 1998. It is scheduled to remain in service until 2030. After this time, it will be necessary to pull it out of orbit and bring it back to Earth.
The station is currently jointly operated by the US, Japan, Canada and European countries. Astronauts from these countries are staying at the station alternately and, according to the agreement, will remain there for another four years.
The station remains one of the greatest achievements of world science. It provides the opportunity to study space, which benefits the entire world.
– says Ken Bowersox from NASA.
For SpaceX This is yet another agreement with the national space agency. Founded by Musk in 2002, the company is currently the leading brand in the US in terms of space flights. Together with Tesla, SpaceX is the main source of Musk’s enormous wealth, which is currently estimated at $220 billion.
