They are breaking popularity records. 80 percent of students use them
It’s not just electronic journals and new student IDs that will stir up excitement at the beginning of the school year. It turns out that there is another extremely popular product that sells like hot cakes. Is it mandatory?
“Time to pay for insurance”
September is the time when buying insurance policies is intensifying. The teacher usually announces at the first meeting: “Please bring money for insurance for your child.” This is usually a not too high amount of around PLN 100 for the whole year. According to industry estimates, that about 80 percent of students in Poland use school insurance. The school does not force you to take out any specific insurance, but increasingly often presents offers. They are usually advantageous, because group policies are always cheaper, but guarantee lower compensation. Many parents sign because it is convenient for them, others prefer to look for insurance on their own in such a situation.
There are many possibilities. A large group of people decide to buy insurance through their bank. Quite recently we wrote about a novelty in the form of training insurance offered by Bank Pocztowy. It is not the only one, VeloBank, BNP Paribas, ING and PKO BP have it in their offer.
It is worth remembering that School insurance is not mandatory. Of course, we insure at school out of habit, because this type of obligation is deeply rooted in us. And there is nothing wrong with that. It is better to buy just in case. In case we want to increase the scope of insurance because the child goes to additional sports classes we can combine both insurances – school with an individual offer.
In Poland, there is no obligation imposed by law on parents or educational institutions to insure children and school youth against the consequences of accidents or other events. The only exception is the organization of a trip or event abroad, where the school is obliged to insure the participants.
– says the Financial Ombudsman.
In practice, school insurance is one of the most popular products.
They are bought by parents of the youngest children, nurseries, kindergartens, school children and high school children. It is also a product that is most often bought by students.
– explains Agnieszka Durska, spokeswoman of the Polish Chamber of Insurance.
For several years now, we have observed that more and more parents are also using individual insurance. They realize that it is comprehensive protection for children and help in many matters.
