These iPhones have not (yet) been released and yet we have proof that they exist
Several iPhone models never released have been discovered in the source code of a tvOS 17 beta. This gives clues to what Apple’s next models, the iPhone 15, could hold.
Apple has released a new wave of betas on its OS: iOS 17 has received some minor new features, for example. Among the updated operating systems is tvOS 17. Beta 5 comes to remove mentions of iPhone models not yet launched by Apple, according to Aarona brand expert.
tvOS 17 holds secrets about iPhone 15s
As he explained on X (new name for Twitter), four new models were added in beta 1 of tvOS 17 before being removed in beta 5. They are named as such in the system source code:
- iPhone 15.4;
- iPhone 15.5;
- iPhone 16.1;
- iPhone 16.2.

As explained 9to5Mac, these names lack real logic and are more a matter of the chips used. The English-language media explains that the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14 and iPhone SE (3rd generation) are named “iPhone14.x“. As for the iPhone 14 Pro, it is the “iPhone15.x», in reference to the A16 Bionic chip.
Furthermore, Aaron explains on X that beta 5 refers to two models that do not exist, namely the “iPhone 14.1” And “iPhone 14.9“. They would be associated with the A15 Bionic chip, but we do not know which ones they are. It is possible that these are models that were never released, discontinued by Apple at an advanced stage, or other products to come. This is indeed not the first time that we find such traces in the codes of Apple.
What patterns have been discovered?
Following this logic, theiPhone 15.4” And “iPhone 15.5would be the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus respectively. As to “iPhone 16.1” And “iPhone 16.2“, these would be the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Hypotheses that are reinforced with other rumors: it seems that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are equipped with the A16 Bionic chip, which is found on the Pro version of 2022. As for the two Pro models, we can think that they will be equipped with an A17 chip, engraved in 3 nanometers.
Regarding the two other models that we do not know, it is possible that it is a new iPhone SE, which would be planned for 2024. It would be in USB-C, would have a larger Oled screen and especially the design of the iPhone XR with the notch. Finally, other theories have emerged: some believe that it would be an update of the iPhone 14. The latter would lose their Lightning port in favor of a USB-C port.
