From January 1, 2025, the minimum wage will increase. From next year, it will amount to PLN 4,626, which means that the fees and penalties calculated on its basis will also increase automatically. Therefore, drivers must expect higher fees for not having insurance. Fines are already very high and will be even higher, reports Dziennik.pl.

Penalties for lack of third party liability insurance

Many drivers may not know this, but being one day late in purchasing car liability insurance is enough to receive a penalty. The Insurance Guarantee Fund automatically detects arrears. He achieved almost perfection with it, because its effectiveness is as much as 95%. In 2023 alone, UFG issued as much as PLN 350,000. summonses with a penalty fee.

The penalty depends on the minimum wage and the number of days without third party liability insurance. In the case of passenger cars, the rate is twice the minimum wage, but it only applies if we are late for more than 14 days. If the delay is up to 3 days, the penalty is 20%. rates. With a delay of 4 to 14 days, it is 50%. Therefore, from January 1, 2025, fines for passenger cars will be:

  • 1 to 3 days late – PLN 1,850
  • from 4 to 14 days late – PLN 4,626
  • more than 14 days late – PLN 9,250

Most of the money from the fine goes to victims of road accidents caused by uninsured drivers. In total, the Insurance Guarantee Fund has already paid out over PLN 2 million.
