There was a plan, but it didn’t work out. There will be no funding for now
There was a project and hope, but in the end the plan didn’t work out. There will be no funding for electric bikes in the expected form for now. The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management did not receive consent to finance them from the Modernization Fund.

We have already written about the government wanting to put Poles on electric bikes, announcing heavy subsidies for those who decide to use this type of transport. Unfortunately, promises are promises, and life is life. There will be no subsidies because the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOĊiGW) has not received consent to finance them from the Modernization Fund.
Not only cyclists may feel disappointed, but also stores that have stocked up on electric carsin anticipation of their increased demand. The plan to subsidize electric bicycles has clearly failed. The leading argument for the support program planned for 2025 was the reduction of CO2 emissions. Switching from cars to bicycles during daily commuting to work was supposed to contribute to this. The incentive for Poles was to be PLN 5,000 in funding for this type of transport. However, the European Investment Bank stated that the arguments submitted were insufficient.
Is there still a chance to get funding for electric bikes?
Everything indicates that subsidies may be organized, but at a later date. All is not lost. It is worth clarifying the project and resubmitting it.
We have the opportunity to resubmit the draft program in an improved form in 2025.
– says the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
As reported by Rzeczpospolita, in terms of funding, other alternative options are also being taken into account, but no specific details are available yet. The government currently has other important expenses, including: reconstruction after the flood.
The Polish electric bicycle market is a market with potential and is developing very quickly. According to bikeboard.pl, in 2026 it will reach up to 25 million units sold, which would mean that the sale of electric cars would constitute 28 percent of the bicycle market. Currently, it is 8-10 percent of all sales.
