Drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs can now be captured by a pioneering camera with AI technology. This type of equipment is being tested for the first time in Devon and Cornwall.
The camera is equipped with a state-of-the-art Heads-Up system that can detect drivers’ behavior on the road, indicating that they are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Police officers may stop a suspicious vehicle, talk to the driver and test him for the presence of prohibited substances in his body.
We are delighted to be carrying out the world’s first trials of this technology in Devon and Cornwall. We will be safer if we are able to detect a drunk or drugged driver before it leads to an incident that could ruin someone’s life.
– says Geoff Collins, CEO of camera studio Acusensus.
Acusensus cameras have previously been used to catch drivers talking on cell phones while driving or not wearing seat belts.
The tests will take place throughout December and will accompany other campaigns to combat drunk driving.
