The Witcher 4 will not be just a third version in new clothes
The first part of the new Witcher trilogy will not simply be the third part in newer guises. CD Projekt RED is preparing a lot of new products.
Currently, CD Projekt RED employs 627 developers. As many as 403 of them are currently working on Project Polaris, which players commonly refer to as The Witcher 4. This is currently the most important project of the Polish studio. However, Michał Nowakowski warns that this will not be simply a better version of the third game.
The Witcher 4, or what?
The president of CD Projekt RED, Michał Nowakowski, answered several questions during a conference call for shareholders. Of course, there were also those about a new game in the Witcher universe, including a possible debut. The head of the studio warned that they did not intend to reveal the release date in this way, because it was part of the marketing plan. Plus, he revealed what Project Polaris could be.
Nowakowski admitted that creating a new game is always a creative risk, but CD Projekt RED wants to push boundaries, explore new areas and do things they haven't done before.
Basically, my point is that you shouldn't expect The Witcher 3 in new guise. I mean, obviously we're building on what's been done before and learning from what's been done before, but we're going to add new things, new elements, new gameplay elements, new mechanics that you haven't seen in our previous games.
– said Nowakowski.
Currently, The Witcher 4 is in the pre-production phase, but full production is scheduled to start in the second half of 2024. Of the remaining developers employed by the company, 17 are responsible for possible updates to Cyberpunk 2077, and 47 are working on the continuation of the adventures in Night City.
