The Witcher 4. We know when to expect the game’s release

CD Projekt RED announced its financial results, and at the same time the studio revealed new details about The Witcher 4. We know when we should expect the game’s release.

CD Projekt RED is working on several games, but the main project at the moment is the next installment of the Witcher series. During a conversation with shareholders, we learned at what stage the work is and when we should expect the premiere. The bad news is that it’s still a matter of a few years.

The Witcher 4. When is the premiere?

Let’s start with the fact that the game conventionally called The Witcher 4 is still in pre-production, which should end soon. Around 410 employees of the company are working on the project, which is currently key for the Polish studio, which is the vast majority of those employed.

When can we expect the premiere? Of course, no specific date has been given, because it’s definitely too early for that. However, the question was raised as to when the game might be ready for release and a company representative admitted that it was probably a matter of around 4-5 years.

The answer to this question really varies from game to game, and I mean in general because there are AAA games that are maybe 3 years in the making, and then there are games that are in production for a very long time. Historically, our games have been in development from the moment they go into production to the moment they go into release in about 4-5 years.

If production is to start this year, it would mean that we can expect The Witcher 4’s premiere in 2028 at the earliest. It all depends on whether we should also count the pre-production stage into this 4- or 5-year period, but the company representative clearly said when the game’s production would begin.

There was also a question about when Witcher 4 pre-orders might start and when the release date would be announced. There are no details here either, just estimates.

We’ll let the market know the release date when we start pre-orders. That’s the answer, of course. There’s no more magic to it. I can probably narrow it down because, for example, digital console stores don’t allow pre-orders to start until a year before the release date. So that gives you an idea.

At the same time, CD Projekt RED is also working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, a new version of The Witcher 1 (a so-called remake), a completely new IP, and a mysterious project related to the Witcher universe. Depending on the project, several to several dozen employees of the company are working on them.
