The telephone conversation lasted 2 hours. But the worst were the text messages

A man reported the fraud to the Municipal Police Headquarters in Siedlce. He does not know how it happened, but as a result of telephone manipulation, he made four transfers to the indicated bank account and thus lost approximately PLN 160,000.

2 hours of hanging on the phone, plus text messages

The fraudsters only needed one day, or more precisely, two hours of telephone conversation, to extort such a significant sum of money from the injured party. He was called by someone pretending to be a bank employee and informed that the funds in the account needed immediate security. The entire conversation lasted over 2 hours.

During this time, the man received SMS messages that looked like authentic bank messages containing verification codes.

39-year-old he believed he was talking to a real bank employeeand according to his instructions, gave him the correct codes. He also provided information on all his savings. The fraudster used all the information and ordered transfers to the so-called technical accounts used to secure funds.

Resident of Siedlce received several text messages during a phone call. He made four transfers for a total amount of PLN 160,000.

Only after completing these activities, the 39-year-old went personally to the bank to check whether his funds were actually well secured. Unfortunately, he found out at the bank that no one had called him and his money had been stolen. The man reported the entire matter to the police.

The police reminds the most important safety rules:

  • The bank never asks for SMS codes, passwords or login details, and certainly not over the phone.
  • Bank employees do not recommend making transfers to “technical accounts” or to any secure accounts.
  • In case of a suspicious call, it is best to hang up and contact the bank again via the official line.
