The 81-year-old managed to outwit the fraudster and bring him to justice. The entire incident took place last week in one of the housing estates in Lublin. It all started with one phone call, in which the caller introduced himself to the woman as a postal worker.
A call from a postal worker and a policeman
The woman was first contacted by an alleged postal employee, and immediately after that she was called by a policeman who stated that they were working on a network of fraudsters and asked the woman for help. The woman’s task was to prepare a bag with savings. This was supposed to be her part in the whole action. The fake policeman asked her to throw the collected cash over the balcony. An officer was supposed to be waiting downstairs.
She felt she was participating in a scam
However, the 81-year-old quickly caught wind of the trick and did not believe for a moment that she was taking part in a secret operation. However, she decided to outwit the fraudsters. First, she informed her son and the police about the whole matter. And in the shopping bag, instead of money, she put books. When she threw them off the balcony, there were real policemen waiting downstairs who were in constant contact with her. The fraudster who planned the entire operation was caught red-handed. He was temporarily arrested for 2 months. He faces up to 8 years in prison.
