The Razer Edge console arrives in France, but the price could cool more than one

Good news for technology and video game enthusiasts in France: the Razer Edge, an Android console, is now available on the French market. And for those looking for the perfect combination of power and maneuverability, the Kishi V2 Pro controller for Android accompanies this release.

PC consoles, such as the Steam Deck and the Asus ROG Ally, have certainly revolutionized the video game market, but another category, less known to the general public, deserves our attention: Android consoles. These devices are not new. In fact, Archos was one of the first to explore this path in 2013. More recently, Logitech launched the G Cloud, an Android console focused on cloud gaming in a Switch form factor.

But today, our attention is focused on a newcomer, freshly landed on the French market: the Razer Edge. Indeed, Razer has just formalized the arrival of its console at Gamescom 2023. We had already been able to take it in hand during a visit to the United States.

This console essentially looks like a boosted Android tablet, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 SoC at its heart (while the Snapdragon G3x Gen2 is coming soon), backed by 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and plenty of other interesting features like Wi-Fi 6E.

Razer Edge Features

But then, what is the point of the Razer Edge? At first glance, play. It provides access to a vast array of apps through the Play Store, including Android games and retro console emulators. Even more appealing, it can also connect to cloud gaming services like Nvidia’s GeForce Now, Microsoft’s Game Pass Cloud and even play PS4 and PS5 games via the cloud.

What really sets the Razer Edge apart is its screen. Measuring 6.8 inches, it has a Full HD + AMOLED definition of 2400 x 1080 pixels, with a refresh rate of 144 Hz.AMOLED guarantees deep blacks and vibrant colors, while the refresh rate of 144Hz ensures a smooth gaming experience.

The console also integrates the Razer Kishi V2 Pro controllers, variants of the V2, which are detachable. Thanks to HyperSense Haptics technology, these controllers promise vibrations as realistic as those of PS5 controllers. Moreover, the Kishi V2 Pro are also available alongside for Android smartphones.

Of course, one could argue that all of this is possible with an Android smartphone paired with a Kishi V2 Pro controller. It is possible, and much more interesting economically. However, Razer Edge offers a distinctive advantage: the Razer Nexus 3.0 app. It facilitates the aggregation of all your games and optimizes the configuration of controls, whether physical or tactile.

Price and comparison

The price of these novelties? The Kishi V2 Pro controllers are offered at 149.99 euros, while the Razer Edge console is displayed at 499.99 euros. Compared to the Steam Deck, which can be found from 339 euros, it may seem expensive, although the two consoles are aimed at slightly different markets. Some might find the Edge a little too expensive, but for fans of Android games and cloud gaming, and especially the Razer brand, it might just be worth the price.
